Why might Managed Services be right for you?

My IT Guy was established in 2010 as what’s known as a break/fix IT support company. If something broke, we got a call and we went and fixed it. We offered a quick response and proved pretty good at fixing IT issues.

We have decided to shift our focus towards providing Managed Services to enable us to pre-empt those issues and offer a more predictable and reliable service.

Break/fix incentivises IT failures which disrupt business and result in unpredictable pay outs. That isn’t an optimal way to maintain a mutually beneficial business partnership. We don’t want to just fix your stuff, we want to help you use technology to work more effectively and grow your business. Together we can move from fire-fighting to silent running.

With Managed Services, you pay a fixed monthly fee, so we can keep everything operating smoothly. Let’s say an IT disaster occurred which we had to spend hours fixing. With break/fix, that’s a potentially huge pay out for you. With a Managed Service plan, you simply pay a fixed fee and no more. We ensure that disaster doesn’t occur. We implement more reliable systems and more effective solutions with better performance.

Moving to a pay-monthly service subscription allows you to predict your monthly IT spending without being hijacked by unexpected issues that take time and money from the important work you do. It also allows us to predict our income and invest in technologies and staff to give you a better service. Our companies can grow together.

We offer a Pay As You Go service at £35 per half-hour, plus a £15 call-out fee if a site visit is required, and we've also developed three very simple and transparent support plans for the small businesses of Birmingham.

24/7 Remote Monitoring

This is the magic sauce and is included as standard on all our support plans! Our agent software on your PCs, laptops, Macs and servers reports back to our Remote Monitoring and Management (RMM) system, which discretely monitors a whole host of system components and services, and generates an alert for us if something is amiss. We’ll become aware of failing hard drives, fans, high temperatures, system services not working and numerous other issues that prevent your equipment from working properly. Which leads us on to…

Proactive Support

Remote monitoring and alerts allow us to spot and resolve a potential problem before it becomes an actual problem. Using machine learning, we can also detect patterns and likely faults, by analysing common data from around the world, and identifying likely issues based on a combination of hardware and software. It’s pretty amazing, and will substantially improve the reliability of your IT.

Unattended Remote Access

Our remote control software will allow us to connect to your computer and operate it just as if we were sitting in front of it. It’s unattended, meaning that it doesn’t require any interaction from you or your staff, ideal for us to get to work quickly without anyone needing to be present.

Documentation

Some IT providers withhold technical information with the belief that ‘knowledge is power.’ We believe in transparency and fairness. We’ll provide you with full documentation on your IT systems, and keep it updated for you to keep in your records or pass on to another IT provider if you ever wish to.

Regular Reports

We can pull useful data from our RMM and ticketing systems so that you can get a clear picture of how your IT is working for you, and how many hours of support you’re using.

Regular IT Review

This is where we’ll pull everything together and discuss where your IT is, and how it can be improved. It’s an opportunity to take stock of what’s working for you and to discuss where you want to go as a business and how we can help get you there.

Troubleshooting

From Outlook niggles to bringing a dead server back to life, troubleshooting is an essential part of getting IT back on its feet when something does go wrong. The focus with our Managed Services is to prevent things from going wrong in the first place, but if they do, we’re there to put things right. Getting to the bottom of a problem and resolving it with as little disruption as possible is paramount.

Patch and Updates Management

One of the most common issues we see with new clients is that their systems do not have the latest security updates. This is imperative. The ransomware attack in 2017 which deeply disrupted the NHS, Renault, FedEx and others, would have been prevented had existing security updates and patches been applied. New vulnerabilities are being detected and exploited all the time, and it’s essential that systems are kept up-todate and managed.

Managed Cyber Security

For our Gold and Platinum clients we provide and manage Bitdefender GravityZone at no additional cost. This is consistently one of the top-performing cyber security solutions in the world. Patented machine learning technologies combined with the ability to monitor behaviour and detect attack techniques enable GravityZone to prevent, detect and block threats that both traditional endpoint and so-called “next-gen AV” defences miss. It then automatically takes actions to keep businesses running normally, including rolling back malicious changes.

The system is entirely configured, monitored and managed by us, centrally. There are no pop-ups on your computers, no slow-down and no prompts for your staff to take action. It just works.

Small businesses have shut down after cyber-attacks wiped out their data. Patch management and cyber security software simply ensures that doesn’t happen to you.

Online Backup

Having offsite copies of your company’s data helps to ensure that if your systems are lost through deletion, fire, flood or theft, your data is retrievable, and you can continue to operate. Our online system transfers your data, encrypted, to secure UK datacentres. It’s GDPR-compliant and surpasses all UK and EU data protection laws.

Email Administration

We’ll take care of adding, modifying and removing email accounts for you. We’re big fans of Microsoft’s Office 365 and we integrate very well with that, but we’ll be able to manage your email system whichever solution you use.

Liaising with other IT suppliers

We’ll talk tech to your IT suppliers and report back to you in plain English. Your internet service provider, email hosts, website people, bespoke software supplier… we’ll liaise with them all.

Network Equipment Support

In addition to desktops, laptops and servers, your core network infrastructure is critical to keeping your business IT running. We’re able to monitor this equipment and ensure its operating optimally. If an upgrade or replacement is needed, we’ll take care of that, too.

Office 365 Business Premium

This is a biggy and represents the first huge value-add of our Platinum plan. We’re able to provide Microsoft Office 365 Business Premium licenses for each member of your staff at no additional cost. That’s the full, current Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel etc) on up to five devices per person, in addition to the full email service, cloud file storage, synchronisation and everything else that comes with Office 365. If you already have an Office 365 subscription, we can seamlessly switch you over on your renewal date.

Office 365 Advanced Threat Protection

A service which uses artificial intelligence to beef up the security of Office 365. Advanced Threat Protection can help protect your mailboxes, files, online storage, and applications against new, sophisticated attacks in real time. It offers holistic protection in Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, SharePoint Online, and OneDrive for Business. By protecting against unsafe attachments and expanding protection against malicious links, it complements the security features of Exchange Online Protection to provide better zeroday protection.

Office 365 Exclaimer Email Signatures

This is such a great addition to our line-up! Currently, you probably have an email signature set up in Outlook, which usually works well enough. Unfortunately, you can’t get that same signature on your phone or tablet, as they don’t allow rich text, or logos. If you need to change part of the signature for the company, someone must manually adapt it in Outlook on every single computer, one at a time. It’s time-consuming to manage.

With Exclaimer, we design a professional email signature template for your company, in the cloud. As an email is sent out (be it from Outlook, the web, a phone, a tablet, wherever) the company signature is appended automatically, pulling individual’s data (such as name, email address and job title) directly from Office 365 and integrating it into the signature.

It means that signatures are entirely consistent for everyone, regardless of which device they’re sent from. Because they’re centrally managed, changes for everyone can be made quickly and easily in one place. We can even give you or your marketing people access, so that they can make their own changes, add a seasonal promotion banner, and so on.

What’s Not Included

The cost of hardware and software (apart from software listed on our Platinum plan) is not included.

We’ll certainly advise on what solutions to purchase, and we’ll use our industry contacts to find the best source.

We don’t provide troubleshooting for specialised software for which first-party support is available. This would be products like Millennium, TARSC, Sage, QuickBooks and so on. We’ll certainly install the application and get it up and running. We’ll even liaise with the developer to work out any issues, but we can’t take sole responsibility for the running of industry-specific software which is maintained and supported by the developer.

Found My IT Guy advertised in the Moseley and Kings Heath magazine. Am always wary of contacting anyone for computer assistance, as am usually treated with some disdain due to not being too computer savvy. After spending far to many evenings trying to repair my own laptop, I contacted My IT Guy, who arranged a time and date to arrive at my home to correct this. He arrived on time and did what he said he would, with out fuse or drama, all files where saved, no lose of any data.
